Improperly Controlled Modification of Object Prototype Attributes ('Prototype Pollution')
CVE-2026-44966
Summary
A prototype pollution vulnerability was discovered in Velocity.js through 2.1.5 and 3.x through 3.0.0-beta1. This issue occurs during the processing of `#set` directives in Velocity templates. If an application renders a template controlled by an attacker, it is possible to modify `Object.prototype`, potentially leading to Denial of Service (DoS) or Remote Code Execution (RCE) depending on the server environment.

CWE-1321 - Prototype Pollution
Prototype pollution is one of the lesser-known vulnerabilities. It allows attackers to abuse the rules of JavaScript by injecting properties into the general object “Object” in JS. Modifying the prototype of “Object” affects the behavior of all objects in the entire app, potentially resulting in denial of service, arbitrary code execution, cross-site scripting, etc.
