Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')
CVE-2025-58765
Summary
Package wabac provides a full web archive replay system, or 'wayback machine', using Service Workers. A Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in the 404 error handling logic of "@webrecorder/wabac" through v2.23.10, "replaywebpage" through v2.3.16, and "@webrecorder/archivewebpage" through v0.15.3. The parameter `requestURL` (derived from the original request target) is directly embedded into an inline `<script>` block without sanitization or escaping. This allows an attacker to craft a malicious URL that executes arbitrary JavaScript in the victims browser. The scope may be limited by CORS policies, depending on the situation in which 'wabac.js' is used.

CWE-79 - Cross Site Scripting
Cross-Site Scripting, commonly referred to as XSS, is the most dominant class of vulnerabilities. It allows an attacker to inject malicious code into a pregnable web application and victimize its users. The exploitation of such a weakness can cause severe issues such as account takeover, and sensitive data exfiltration. Because of the prevalence of XSS vulnerabilities and their high rate of exploitation, it has remained in the OWASP top 10 vulnerabilities for years.
