CVE-2025-5187
Summary
A vulnerability exists in the NodeRestriction admission controller in Kubernetes clusters where node users can delete their corresponding node object by patching themselves with an OwnerReference to a cluster-scoped resource. If the OwnerReference resource does not exist or is subsequently deleted, the given node object will be deleted via garbage collection. This issue affects github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes versions prior to 1.31.12, 1.32.x prior to 1.32.8, 1.33.x prior to 1.33.4, 1.34.x prior to 1.34.0.rc2.

CWE-863 - Incorrect Authorization
Authorization is a security mechanism performed by an application to grant or deny access to the requested resources by verifying the privileges of the user. When an application lacks effective authorization mechanisms, it enables unauthorized users to gain unintended privileges and illegitimate access to resources. Such a vulnerability may result in exposure of sensitive information, denial of service, arbitrary code execution, and complete system takeover.
