Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')

CVE-2025-11966

Severity Low
Score 2.3/10

Summary

In Eclipse Vert.x versions through 4.5.21 and 5.x through 5.0.4, when "directory listing" is enabled, file and directory names are inserted into generated HTML without proper escaping in the "href", "title", and "link" attributes. An attacker who can create or rename files or directories within a served path can craft filenames containing malicious script or HTML content, leading to Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) that executes in the context of users viewing the affected directory listing.

CWE-79 - Cross Site Scripting

Cross-Site Scripting, commonly referred to as XSS, is the most dominant class of vulnerabilities. It allows an attacker to inject malicious code into a pregnable web application and victimize its users. The exploitation of such a weakness can cause severe issues such as account takeover, and sensitive data exfiltration. Because of the prevalence of XSS vulnerabilities and their high rate of exploitation, it has remained in the OWASP top 10 vulnerabilities for years.
