Improper Authentication
CVE-2024-51996
Summary
Symphony process is a module for the Symphony PHP framework which executes commands in sub-processes. When consuming a persisted remember-me cookie, Symfony does not check if the username persisted in the database matches the username attached to the cookie, leading to an authentication bypass. This issue affects symfony/security-http versions 5.3.0-BETA1 through 5.4.46, 6.0.0-BETA1 through 6.4.14, 7.0.0-BETA1 through 7.1.7, and 7.2.0-BETA1 through 7.2.0-BETA2.

CWE-287 - Improper Authentication
Improper (or broken) authentication attacks are widespread, and have accounted for many of the worst data breaches in recent years. Improper authentication attacks are a class of vulnerabilities where an attacker impersonates a legitimate user by exploiting weaknesses in either session management or credential management to gain access to the user’s account. This can result in disclosure of sensitive information, and can lead to system compromise, theft, identity theft, and fraud.
