CVE-2024-4984

Severity Medium
Score 6.4/10

Summary

The Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-site Scripting via the 'display_name' author meta due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This vulnerability affects yoast/wordpress-seo package versions v3.0.1, and 15.2-RC1 through 22.6.

CWE-79 - Cross Site Scripting

Cross-Site Scripting, commonly referred to as XSS, is the most dominant class of vulnerabilities. It allows an attacker to inject malicious code into a pregnable web application and victimize its users. The exploitation of such a weakness can cause severe issues such as account takeover, and sensitive data exfiltration. Because of the prevalence of XSS vulnerabilities and their high rate of exploitation, it has remained in the OWASP top 10 vulnerabilities for years.
