Insertion of Sensitive Information into Log File

CVE-2024-49750

Severity Medium
Score 5.5/10

Summary

The Snowflake Connector for Python provides an interface for developing Python applications that can connect to Snowflake and perform all standard operations. When the logging level was set by the user to "DEBUG", the Connector could have logged Duo passcodes (when specified via the "passcode" parameter) and Azure SAS tokens. Additionally, the "SecretDetector" logging formatter, if enabled, contained bugs which caused it to not fully redact JWT tokens and certain private key formats. This issue affects snowflake-connector-python versions prior to 3.12.3. In addition to upgrading, users should review their logs for any potentially sensitive information that may have been captured.

CWE-532 - Insertion of Sensitive Information into Log File

It's quite common for applications to save logs. For example, whenever a user requests a resource from a particular website, the web server writes information about the request to a log file. These files are helpful for identifying abnormal system activity, bugs, and evaluating the security controls of the application. Security of log files is critical for the overall security of the application and its confidential resources. An application that lacks appropriate logging levels can expose sensitive user data and system information stored on the log files to malicious users. This info can be exploited to compromise your system.
