Summary

Backstage is an open framework for building developer portals. When using the AWS S3 or GCS storage provider for "TechDocs", it is possible to access content in the entire storage bucket. This can leak contents of the bucket that are not intended to be accessible, as well as bypass permission checks in Backstage. This vulnerability affects @backstage/plugin-techdocs-backend package versions prior to 1.10.13. All users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.

CWE-22 - Path Traversal

Path traversal (or directory traversal), is a vulnerability that allows malicious users to traverse the server's root directory, gaining access to arbitrary files and folders such as application code & data, back-end credentials, and sensitive operating system files. In the worst-case scenario, an attacker could potentially execute arbitrary files on the server, resulting in a denial of service attack. Such an exploit may severely impact the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of an application.
