Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')

CVE-2024-34716

Severity Medium
Score 6.1/10

Summary

PrestaShop is an open source e-commerce web application. A Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability that only affects PrestaShops with the customer-thread feature flag enabled is present in PrestaShop versions 8.1.0-beta.1 through 8.1.5. When the customer thread feature flag is enabled through the front-office contact form, a hacker can upload a malicious file containing a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) that will be executed when an admin opens the attached file in the back office. The script injected can access the session and the security token, which allows it to perform any authenticated action in the scope of the administrator's right. A workaround is to disable the customer-thread feature-flag.

CWE-79 - Cross Site Scripting

Cross-Site Scripting, commonly referred to as XSS, is the most dominant class of vulnerabilities. It allows an attacker to inject malicious code into a pregnable web application and victimize its users. The exploitation of such a weakness can cause severe issues such as account takeover, and sensitive data exfiltration. Because of the prevalence of XSS vulnerabilities and their high rate of exploitation, it has remained in the OWASP top 10 vulnerabilities for years.
