Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')
CVE-2024-22411
Summary
Avo is a framework for creating admin panels for Ruby on Rails apps. In Avo 3 pre12, any HTML inside text passed to "error" or "succeed" in an "Avo::BaseAction" subclass will be rendered directly without sanitization in the "toast/notification" that appears in the UI on Action completion. A malicious user could exploit this vulnerability to trigger a Cross-site Scripting (XSS) attack on an unsuspecting user. This vulnerability affects avo package versions 1.3.0.pre.1, 1.3.5.pre.1 through 2.46.0 and 3.0.0.beta1 through 3.2.3.

CWE-79 - Cross Site Scripting
Cross-Site Scripting, commonly referred to as XSS, is the most dominant class of vulnerabilities. It allows an attacker to inject malicious code into a pregnable web application and victimize its users. The exploitation of such a weakness can cause severe issues such as account takeover, and sensitive data exfiltration. Because of the prevalence of XSS vulnerabilities and their high rate of exploitation, it has remained in the OWASP top 10 vulnerabilities for years.
