Deserialization of Untrusted Data

CVE-2024-11394

Severity High
Score 8.8/10

Summary

transformers package "Trax Model" is vulnerable to Deserialization of Untrusted Data, which could lead to Remote Code Execution. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Hugging Face Transformers. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the handling of model files. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of user-supplied data, which can result in deserialization of untrusted data. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current user. This vulnerability was assigned to ZDI-CAN-25012. NOTE: This shares the same fix commit with CVE-2024-11393 and CVE-2024-11392.

CWE-502 - Deserialization of Untrusted Data

Deserialization of untrusted data vulnerabilities enable an attacker to replace or manipulate a serialized object, replacing it with malicious data. When the object is deserialized at the victim's end the malicious data is able to compromise the victim’s system. The exploit can be devastating, its impact may range from privilege escalation, broken access control, or denial of service attacks to allowing unauthorized access to the application's internal code and logic which can compromise the entire system.
