Deserialization of Untrusted Data
Apache ActiveMQ is vulnerable to Remote Code Execution in activemq-client in versions through 5.15.15, 5.16.0 through 5.16.6, 5.17.0 through 5.17.5, 5.18.0 through 5.18.2 and activemq-openwire-legacy in versions 5.8.0 through 5.15.15, 5.16.0 through 5.16.6, 5.17.0 through 5.17.5, 5.18.0 through 5.18.2. The vulnerability may allow a remote attacker with network access to a broker to run arbitrary shell commands by manipulating serialized class types in the 'OpenWire' protocol to cause the broker to instantiate any class on the classpath. Users are recommended to upgrade, which fixes this issue.
CWE-502 - Deserialization of Untrusted Data
Deserialization of untrusted data vulnerabilities enable an attacker to replace or manipulate a serialized object, replacing it with malicious data. When the object is deserialized at the victim's end the malicious data is able to compromise the victim’s system. The exploit can be devastating, its impact may range from privilege escalation, broken access control, or denial of service attacks to allowing unauthorized access to the application's internal code and logic which can compromise the entire system.
