Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')

CVE-2023-42817

Severity Medium
Score 5.4/10

Summary

Pimcore admin-ui-classic-bundle provides a Backend UI for Pimcore. The translation value with text including "%s" (from "%suggest%") is parsed by "sprintf()" even though it's supposed to be output literally to the user. The translations may be accessible by a user with comparatively lower overall access (as the translation permission cannot be scoped to certain "modules") and a skilled attacker might be able to exploit the parsing of the translation string in the dialog box. This issue has been patched in commit `abd77392`. This vulnerability affects pimcore/admin-ui-classic-bundle package versions through 1.1.1, and pimcore/pimcore package version through 11.0.0-ALPHA8.

CWE-79 - Cross Site Scripting

Cross-Site Scripting, commonly referred to as XSS, is the most dominant class of vulnerabilities. It allows an attacker to inject malicious code into a pregnable web application and victimize its users. The exploitation of such a weakness can cause severe issues such as account takeover, and sensitive data exfiltration. Because of the prevalence of XSS vulnerabilities and their high rate of exploitation, it has remained in the OWASP top 10 vulnerabilities for years.
