Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')

CVE-2023-30855

Severity High
Score 7.5/10

Summary

Pimcore is an open source data and experience management platform. Versions of Pimcore prior to 10.5.18 and 11.0.x prior to 11.0.0-ALPHA6 are vulnerable to Path Traversal. The impact of this path traversal and arbitrary extension is limited to creation of arbitrary files and appending data to existing files. When combined with the SQL Injection, the exported data `RESTRICTED DIFFUSION 9 / 9` can be controlled and a webshell can be uploaded. Attackers can use that to execute arbitrary PHP code on the server with the permissions of the webserver.

CWE-22 - Path Traversal

Path traversal (or directory traversal), is a vulnerability that allows malicious users to traverse the server's root directory, gaining access to arbitrary files and folders such as application code & data, back-end credentials, and sensitive operating system files. In the worst-case scenario, an attacker could potentially execute arbitrary files on the server, resulting in a denial of service attack. Such an exploit may severely impact the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of an application.
