Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an SQL Command ('SQL Injection')

CVE-2023-28108

Severity High
Score 7.8/10

Summary

Pimcore is an open-source data and experience management platform. In versions prior to 10.5.19, and 11.0.x prior to 11.0.0-ALPHA7, quoting is not done properly in UUID DAO model. There is the theoretical possibility to inject custom SQL if the developer is using this method with input data and not doing proper input validation in advance and so relies on the auto-quoting being done by the DAO class. Users should update to the fixed version to receive a patch or, as a workaround, apply the patch manually.

CWE-89 - SQL Injection

Structured Query Language (SQL) injection attacks are one of the most common types of vulnerabilities. They exploit weaknesses in vulnerable applications to gain unauthorized access to backend databases. This often occurs when an attacker enters unexpected SQL syntax in an input field. The resulting SQL statement behaves in the background in an unintended manner, which allows the possibility of unauthorized data retrieval, data modification, execution of database administration operations, and execution of commands on the operating system.
