Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')

CVE-2023-27494

Severity Medium
Score 6.1/10

Summary

Streamlit, software for turning data scripts into web applications, had a Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in versions 0.63.0 through 0.80.1.dev20210420. Users of hosted Streamlit app(s) were vulnerable to a reflected XSS vulnerability. An attacker could craft a malicious URL with Javascript payloads to a Streamlit app. The attacker could then trick the user into visiting the malicious URL and, if successful, the server would render the malicious javascript payload as-is, leading to XSS.

CWE-79 - Cross Site Scripting

Cross-Site Scripting, commonly referred to as XSS, is the most dominant class of vulnerabilities. It allows an attacker to inject malicious code into a pregnable web application and victimize its users. The exploitation of such a weakness can cause severe issues such as account takeover, and sensitive data exfiltration. Because of the prevalence of XSS vulnerabilities and their high rate of exploitation, it has remained in the OWASP top 10 vulnerabilities for years.
