UNIX Symbolic Link (Symlink) Following
CVE-2022-3592
Summary
A symlink following vulnerability was found in Samba, where a user can create a symbolic link that will make 'smbd' escape the configured share path. This flaw allows a remote user with access to the exported part of the file system under a share via SMB1 unix extensions or NFS to create symlinks to files outside the 'smbd' configured share path and gain access to another restricted server's filesystem. This issue affects version 4.17.x prior to 4.17.2. Note that SMB1 has to be enabled, or the share also available via NFS in order for this attack to succeed.

CWE-61 - UNIX Symbolic Link (Symlink) Following
The software, when opening a file or directory, does not sufficiently account for when the file is a symbolic link that resolves to a target outside of the intended control sphere. This could allow an attacker to cause the software to operate on unauthorized files.
