Uncontrolled Resource Consumption

CVE-2022-29885

Severity High
Score 7.5/10

Summary

The documentation of Apache Tomcat 8.5.38 through 8.5.78, 9.0.13 through 9.0.62, 10.0.0-M1 through 10.0.20, and 10.1.0-M1 through 10.1.0-M14 for the EncryptInterceptor incorrectly stated it enabled Tomcat clustering to run over an untrusted network. This was not correct. While the EncryptInterceptor does provide confidentiality and integrity protection, it does not protect against all risks associated with running over any untrusted network, particularly DoS risks.

CWE-400 - Uncontrolled resource consumption

An uncontrolled resource allocation attack (also known as resource exhaustion attack) triggers unauthorized overconsumption of the limited resources in an application, such as memory, file system storage, database connection pool entries, and CPU. This may lead to denial of service for valid users and degradation of the application's functionality as well as that of the host operating system.
