Uncontrolled Resource Consumption
In HashiCorp Vault and Vault Enterprise 1.4.0 through 1.7.6, 1.8.0-rc1 through 1.8.5, and 1.9.0-rc1 through 1.9.0, clusters using the Integrated Storage backend allowed an authenticated user (with write permissions to a kv secrets engine) to cause a panic and denial of service of the storage backend.
CWE-400 - Uncontrolled resource consumption
An uncontrolled resource allocation attack (also known as resource exhaustion attack) triggers unauthorized overconsumption of the limited resources in an application, such as memory, file system storage, database connection pool entries, and CPU. This may lead to denial of service for valid users and degradation of the application's functionality as well as that of the host operating system.
