Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer
CVE-2019-14308
Summary
Several Ricoh printers have multiple buffer overflows parsing LPD packets, which allow an attacker to cause a denial of service or code execution via crafted requests to the LPD service. Affected firmware versions depend on the printer models. One affected configuration is cpe:2.3:o:ricoh:sp_c250dn_firmware:-:*:*:*:*:*:*:* up to (including) 1.06 running on cpe:2.3:o:ricoh:sp_c250dn:-:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, cpe:2.3:o:ricoh:sp_c252dn:-:*:*:*:*:*:*:*. Another affected configuration is cpe:2.3:o:ricoh:sp_c250sf_firmware:-:*:*:*:*:*:*:* up to (including) 1.12 running on cpe:2.3:o:ricoh:sp_c250sf:-:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, cpe:2.3:o:ricoh:sp_c252sf:-:*:*:*:*:*:*:*.

CWE-119 - Buffer Overflow
Buffer overflow attacks involve data transit and operations exceeding the restricted memory buffer, thereby corrupting or overwriting data in adjacent memory locations. Such overflow allows the attacker to run arbitrary code or manipulate the existing code to cause privilege escalation, data breach, denial of service, system crash and even complete system compromise. Given that languages such as C and C++ lack default safeguards against overwriting or accessing data in their memory, applications utilizing these languages are most susceptible to buffer overflows attacks.
