Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls
The ELF file parser in Dr.Web 5.0.2.03300, eSafe 184.108.40.206, McAfee Gateway (formerly Webwasher) 2010.1C, Rising Antivirus 22.83.00.03, Fortinet Antivirus 220.127.116.11, and Panda Antivirus 10.0.2.7 allows remote attackers to bypass malware detection via an ELF file with a modified ei_version field. NOTE: this may later be SPLIT into multiple CVEs if additional information is published showing that the error occurred independently in different ELF parser implementations.
CWE-264 - Permissions Privileges and Access Controls
CWE 264 (permissions, privileges, and access controls) is not a weakness in and of itself, rather it is a category of weaknesses related to the management of permissions, privileges, and other security features used to perform access control. If not addressed, the weaknesses in this category allow attackers to gain privileges for an unintended sphere of control, access sensitive information, and execute arbitrary commands.
