Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an SQL Command ('SQL Injection') in org.webjars.npm:socket.io-parser

CVE-2022-2421

  • org.webjars.npm:socket.io-parser
  • socket.io-parser
Severity High
Score 9.8/10

Summary

Due to improper type validation in attachment parsing of the Socket.io JS library, it is possible to overwrite the "_placeholder" object, which allows an attacker to place references to functions at arbitrary places in the resulting query object. This affects socket.io-parser versions through 3.3.2, 3.4.0 through 3.4.1, 4.0.1-rc1 through 4.0.4 and 4.1.0 through 4.2.0.

CWE-89 - SQL Injection

Structured Query Language (SQL) injection attacks are one of the most common types of vulnerabilities. They exploit weaknesses in vulnerable applications to gain unauthorized access to backend databases. This often occurs when an attacker enters unexpected SQL syntax in an input field. The resulting SQL statement behaves in the background in an unintended manner, which allows the possibility of unauthorized data retrieval, data modification, execution of database administration operations, and execution of commands on the operating system.
